This concert night started with six young guitar students playing in a guitar orchestra. They performed at last year´s festival as well so now we had the opportunity to hear and see their progress from last year. At a festival like this one were the audience comes to listen to virtuosos of today it is easy to forget where they all started a long time ago. We who have played the guitar for many years know how much time and effort you must put in to it. So we hope that this concert encourage these girls to keep practicing and become the virtuosos of tomorrow. Well done girls and a extra praise to Gunnar Hansson for his engagement to his students.
Hubert Käppel
Hubert Käppel is not just an unique exception of the best guitarists of today. H Käppels interpreting, perfect tone and virtuoso technique have become the norm to many other guitarists around the world. Approximately ten years ago he made an international break-through after an epoch-making CD-recording of Bachs 6:th partita for the harpsichord. Hubert Käppel has been called an unorthodox classical magician by the Guitar Magazine. His ability to reach an audience that normally doesn't listen to classical guitar music is one of his specialties. His unusual choice of repertoire extend from well known baroque music to contemporary music. Hubert Käppel was born in Cologne. He has won the international guitar competition in Gargnano Italy, toured all over the world and is the holder of a professorship in Weimar since 1994. His pedagogic talent appear in his book "Käppels Guitar Method" (AMA).

They are the first and so far the only Swedish soloists of all categories to get a contract with the four productions company (Erato, Finlandia, Nonesuch and Teldec Records) owned by the Warner Classics International. Progetto Avanti debuted in Sweden in 1991 and gave their international debut as Sweden representatives at the EXPO '92 in Seville were they in competition with 300 other culture events a day played for full houses at the Swedish Pavilion. This night´s concert was the first in Sweden in 2 1/2 years, and in fact the first official concert in their hometown Malmoe.
Alfredo Panebianco
&
Vania Del Monaco
Vania Del Monaco and Alfredo Panebianco took you on a journey trough the spectrum of Latin-American music where the guitar has led five hundred years of tradition. Departing from the purest formes of classical guitar music, they have immersed themselves in Cuban popular music, Flamenco rhythms, seductive Brazilian harmonies, jazz or oriental tones, combining to an unprecedented blending where virtuosity, delicacy of touch and elegance establish a dialogue which transports the listener to new delights.
These two well-known virtuosos was joined by percussion instruments (caxixi, chocalho, bongos, maracas, claves guiro, darbouka), played by Humberto Perdomo, which gave the project a masterly touch of originality.
